Common Wants to Break the Cycle of Raising Broken Black Men
Not knocking the goal, but I’m braced for black women to get the blame as single mothers + a rousing good time of people pretending that black women don’t have any emotional needs while black patriarchal attitudes punish them for existing & surviving.
The truth is in the tags: #Yep I am cynical #Nope I don’t care if you like him #I have seen these programs in the past #Black girls always get told to close their legs #Black boys get conversations about their futures as community leaders
Now that I think of it, I was never told or encouraged to become a community leader. That was DEFINITELY not a narrative around when I was growing up.
And yet Black women have the strongest history as community leaders. Smh. Yea, I’m cynical too.
I remember just being taught to be a model of femininity for other women and to support the men as they handle they business.
yeah, ok.
This just brings me back to being one out of TWO black female government majors in college. People would talk to me in class sometimes like “what are you actually doing here?”
